Step 2 – Choose How You Would Like to Book
There are two common ways to arrange a luxury yacht charter.
Many guests choose to work with a retail charter broker, who searches across a wide selection of yachts and represents the charterer’s interests throughout the booking process. Their commission is already included within the advertised charter rate.
Alternatively, you can book directly through the yacht’s Central Agent (CA). Step 4 – Review and Sign the MYBA Charter Agreement
Once you’ve selected your preferred yacht and travel dates, the booking is confirmed through the MYBA Charter Agreement, the industry-standard contract developed by the Mediterranean Yacht Brokers Association.

The first payment, usually 50% of the charter fee, is made when the MYBA agreement is signed. The remaining balance is generally due around one month before embarkation.
Funds are held securely by an appointed Stakeholder, usually the Central Agent or an authorised escrow holder, until the charter officially begins, providing protection and reassurance for everyone involved.
Step 6 – Complete Your Preference Sheet
Several weeks before departure, you’ll receive a detailed preference sheet designed to personalise every aspect of your time on board.
This document allows you to share information about dietary preferences, favourite drinks, allergies, celebrations, sleeping arrangements, preferred activities, children’s requirements, and any special requests. The captain and chef use these details to provision the yacht and prepare your itinerary well before your arrival.

Step 7 – Understand Additional Charter Costs

The captain carefully records all expenditure, with any unused funds refunded at the conclusion of the charter or additional costs settled if the allowance has been exceeded.
VAT is charged according to the country or countries where your charter takes place, with rates varying between cruising destinations.
Crew gratuity is entirely discretionary but is traditionally offered at the end of the charter in recognition of exceptional service, with many guests choosing between 5% and 15% of the charter fee.
